The History of Our Town!

Hey! Let’s do something kinda different. Today, we’re putting on our hiking boots and heading back in time to learn about Eagle, Colorado’s fascinating past. Our amazing little town is in the middle of the Rocky Mountains and has more stories than a campfire on a clear night.

Let’s go back in time to the late 1800s, when people started to move into this beautiful valley in small numbers. During the Colorado Gold Rush, you can imagine tough pioneers with their trusty mules looking for adventure and a chance to get rich. As they looked for shiny gold nuggets in the Eagle River, they didn’t know it, but they were laying the groundwork for a thriving town.

The name of the town is said to have been inspired by the majestic eagles flying through the blue sky. It is a fitting tribute to the wild land that drew settlers from far away. And those settlers sure did work hard! By the early 1900s, Eagle had grown from a remote outpost into a busy hub with sawmills, ranches, and a growing railroad that connected it to the world beyond the mountains.

As time went on, the brilliant individuals who lived there changed with the times. Around the middle of the 20th century, industries like tourism and outdoor recreation began to change and become more diverse. With the stunning beauty of the Rockies right outside its door, Eagle started to attract adventurers and nature lovers from all over.

Today, Eagle is proud of its past and looks forward to the future with open arms. In the town’s Historic District, you can walk around and see well-kept buildings that tell stories about the past. There’s something magical about standing in front of a building that’s been there for a hundred years and trying to picture the lives of the people who lived there!

Aside from its interesting history, Eagle is a great place for people who love the outdoors. Whether you’re an avid hiker, a daring mountain biker, or just looking for peace and quiet in nature, the nearby wilderness won’t let you down. Explore the huge White River National Forest or set up camp by Sylvan Lake, and you’ll find both peace and excitement. Make sure you hit Boone’s on the way up! 😉

So, to our beloved community and town of Eagle- we love you! We are so happy this is where we get to call home and Boone’s would not exist without the beautiful town of Eagle.
